There are plenty of blogs about fashion in Second Life, but 99% of them are about women’s fashion. There are a few blogs about freebie/dollarbies, but again most are geared to women only. So what’s a guy to do? A new rezzie, fresh off Help Island with “Mens shape and outfit” pants and plain white tee and zero lindens in his pocket, well I think he needs a bit more love.
So what am I going to include in this blog? Well the first criteria is it’s just for mens fashion. Clothing and accessories, skin and hair, and anything else that can make your avatar look good. I’ll be letting you know about freebie stores in general as well. Now and again I might blog about toys and gadgets and other things that guys like to play with, but only if it’s something really notable.
Also because “free” things aren’t always totally free, I’ll include some dollarbies too.
What you definitely won’t find here, is girly stuff.
About Businesses-in-a-box and Reselling: In case you don’t know, these are full-perm reseller items that are being sold as a package so the buyer can set up their own store selling pre-made items. Usually these full-perm items are sold at extortionately high prices but sometimes they get onto the freebie market and end up being given away in a freebie store. Ironically I think this is going to be inevitable for these reseller items, someone will start giving them away and thus they get into the public domain. (The solution is for designers to make their items, whether freebie or otherwise, either no-copy or no-trans).
There is one definite no-no here. DON’T, under any circumstances, take your freebies and try to sell them for anything more than what you paid for them. Aside from being unethical and the height of bad manners, people will simply laugh at you, and not buy your stuff because it’s available free somewhere else. But by all means, give them away to others for free too.
Stolen Items: This can sometimes happen, when SL messes up the permissions of an item, or when somene uses a tool (against the TOS) to rip and copy the textures on an item. It is possible that some of the items reviewed in this blog have been ripped off in such a way and like the reseller items, have found their way onto the freebie market. If I find out about it then I will wothdraw the review. If you are a designer of something reviewed here and you believe your item is stolen; don’t blame me. I am reviewing in good faith having found an item on offer for free. I will provide SLURLs – go there and make your argument with the person you believe stole your stuff.
Subject To Change: Many designers’ offers are for a limited period only, sometimes only for a week or a day. So if you go to a location and find the item no longer available it could simply have been replaced or withdrawn.
I am not going to include items given away to group members of update groups – although this is a good way of getting freebies from a place you really like, avatars are limited by the number of groups they’re able to join.

Herr Constantine,
You may wish to emphasize to your readers that nobody is entitled to ‘freebies’. They are offered as a courtesy and act of generosity; if one is no longer available, no amount of indignation heaped on a busy creator will ever prompt them to make it available again, and may in fact discourage them from continuing in their charity. Saying ‘thank you’ on the other hand will generate much more positive results, and show the recipient that it was truly worthwhile.
